HISTORY OF BULAND DARWAZA

Buland Darwaza (Hindi: बुलंद दरवाज़ा, Urdu: بُلند دروازه, pronounced [ˈbʊlənd̪ d̪ərˈʋaːzaː]), meaning 'high' or 'great' gate in Persian, is the largest of gateways in the world[citation needed]. It is located in Fatehpur Sikri which is located 43 km away from Agra, India. It is also known as the "Gate of Magnificence". [1]

The Buland Darwaza towers above the courtyard of the mosque. The Buland Darwaza is semi octagonal in plan and is topped by pillars and chhatris. Buland Darwaza echoes early Mughal design with simple ornamentation, carved verses from the Qur`an and towering arches. There are thirteen smaller domed kiosks on the roof, stylized battlement and small turrets and inlay work of white and black marble. On the outside a long flight of steps sweeps down the hill giving the gateway additional height. A Persian inscription on eastern archway of the Buland Darwaza records Akbar's conquest over Deccan in 1601 A.D.It is a superb gateway, 40 metres high and 50 metres from the ground. The total height of the Structure is about 54 metres from the ground level. It is the highest gateway in India. It is made up of real sandstone and decorated with beautiful carvings and inlay work in white marble.A verse from the teachings of Jesus Christ was also included in the inscriptions revealing the religious tolerance and broadmindedness of Akbar. It is a 15-storied high gateway that guards the southern entrance of the city of Fatehpur Sikri.

Buland Darwaza or the loft gateway was built by the great Mughal emperor, Akbar in 1601 A.D. at Fatehpur Sikri. Akbar built the Buland Darwaza to commemorate his victory over Gujarat. The Buland Darwaza is approached by 42 steps. The Buland Darwaza is 53.63m high and 35 meters wide. Buland Darwaza is the highest gateway in the world and an astounding example of the Mughal architecture. The Buland Darwaza or the magnificence gateway is made of red and buff sandstone, decorated by carving and inlaying of white and black marble. An inscription on the central face of the Buland Darwaza throws light on Akbar's religious broad mindedness.

Wafa ko aazmana chahiye tha humara dil dukhana chahiye tha

Aana na aana meri marzi hai tumko to bulana chahiye tha

Humari khwaahish ek ghar ki thi use sara zamaana chahiye tha

Meri aankhein kaha nam hui thi samundar ko bahana chahiye tha

Jaha par panhuchna main chahta hoon waha pe panhuch jana chahiye tha

Humara zakhm purana bahut hai charagar bhi purana chahiye tha

Mujhse pahle wo kisi aur ki thi magar kuch shayrana chahiye tha

Chalo mana ye choti baat hai par tumhe sab kuch batana chahiye tha

Tera bhi shaher me koi nahi tha mujhe bhi ek thikana chahiye tha

Ke kis ko kis tarah se bhoolte hain tumhe mujhko sikhana chahiye tha

Aisa lagta hai lahoo mein humko kalam ko bhi dubana chahiye tha

Ab mere saath rah ke tanz na kar tujhe jana tha jana chahiye tha

Kya bus maine hi ki hai bewafaai jo bhi sach hai batana chahiye tha

Meri barbadi pe wo chahta hai mujhe bhi muskurana chahiye tha

Bas ek tu hi mere saath mein hai tujhe bhi rooth jana chahiye tha

Humare paas jo ye fan hai miya hume is se kamana chahiye tha

Ab ye taaj kis kaam ka hai hume sar ko bachana chahiye tha

Usi ko yaad rakha umar bhar ke jisko bhool jana chahiye tha

Mujhse baat bhi karni thi usko gale se bhi lagana chahiye tha

usne pyaar se bulaya tha hume mar ke bhi aana chahiye tha

Tumhe 'satlaj' use pane ke khatir kabhi khud ko gawana chahiye tha!!
